The Challenge - Season 30 ...

Me! But for that format, I think they should bring stronger women like Emily (winner of a Rivals season), Laurel, Evelyn, Nicole (from Invasion), etc. That would be a lot more fair and fun to watch; the other Battle of the Sexes seasons were completely dominated by guys.

The Challenge - Season 30 ...

What began as an experimental episode of The Real World crossover with Road Rules in the late '90s has become a reality institution at MTV -- I'm talking, of course, about The Challenge. The reality series begins its 30th season on Tuesday and shows no signs of going into a final elimination.

The latest iteration, taglined "XXX: The Dirty 30," will bring, you guessed it, 30 previous Challenge/Real World/Are You the One and yes, even Road Rules competitors together to compete for their share of the largest Challenge prize ever -- $1 million. The landmark season will celebrate everything that has made The Challenge a reality TV institution -- nostalgia, drama and backstabbing in a formula that has been perfected over a decade and a half of programming.

The expected names have returned for XXX, including Challenge legends CT, Johnny Bananas and Derrick, along with a handful of Are You the One newcomers. But this season's roster also includes some older familiar faces like Veronica from Road Rules: Semester at Sea. The MTV veteran made a brief appearance on Champs vs Pros earlier this summer, but otherwise hasn't been on a full season since 2009's The Ruins. Darrell is also returning for his third consecutive season, proving he's ready to get back in The Challenge game full-time after dominating the reality show's early seasons before the reign of Johnny Bananas. Those nostalgic names are part of what creates The Challenge magic.

"The thing that makes The Challenge unique is that the MTV audience has grown up with this cast," Murray explained. "They've watched CT from the time he was on Real World: Paris. They watched him be sort of a bull in the China shop punching Adam and they've watched him go through his love affair with Diem. They've watched him grow up. They love being on this journey with him and he's not the only one. There are lots of people on The Challenge that the viewers enjoy coming back to them season after season and catching up with them."

The Challenge making it to this milestone season has been in large part due to Murray and his team's genius way of upping the ante each season and reinventing the politics of the game to put fan favorite characters in brand new and more stressful situations with each new adventure. They're pulling out all the stops this season, meaning that along with hopefully insightful conversation will also come the gritty drama the show has built its reputation on as new twists throw even the most seasoned veterans for a loop.

"Particularly for The Challenge, we need to constantly be changing the game, changing what we're doing not only to keep the show interesting for the viewers but to keep it interesting for those cast members," Murray said. "We don't want them coming into a season thinking they know how to play the game. We've got to find some ways [to make them go], 'Oh, it's not working the same way as before. I need to rethink my strategy.' We need to keep them on their toes."

The Challenge's ability to reinvent itself every season without alienating its core DNA has helped it survive more than 15 years on the air. It continues to be one of MTV's most valued properties as the network bucks almost all of its scripted programming and buckles down on its established franchises. It's more likely to see more of The Challenge than it is to see the reality show retire.

Ready or not, here it comes! The season finale of The Challenge: Invasion Of The Champions is coming at you on Tuesday, May 9 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV, and that means it's almost time to find out whether Underdogs Ashley M., Cory, Nelson, or Nicole will take home the $350,000 grand prize, or if it will it be one of the Champs, CT or Camila. No matter what happens during The Challenge season finale, now is not the time to be sad that this season is almost over. As the 29th season of this reality competition series, the hope is strong that The Challenge will return for Season 30.

However, MTV has not yet officially announced whether or not there will be more of The Challenge in the future, so all you can do at this point is hope that it comes back. Still, given the fact that The Challenge is such a long-running, beloved, and buzzy series, coupled with the fact that the show's ratings have remained fairly consistent from season to season, according to data from the Nielsen Company, as reported by TV By The Numbers, I would be surprised if MTV didn't bring it back for another installment.

Without an official renewal from MTV, that means there's no telling when the new season of The Challenge will premiere if it does get picked up for another installment. It'd even be difficult to try and guess based on when new seasons of the series have premiered in the past because they have bowed at all different times of the year in the show's 29 seasons so far.

But have no fear, because there is definitely more of The Challenge on the way after the Season 29 finale. For starters, the cast of The Challenge: Invasion Of The Champions will come together again to revisit the highs and lows of the season at the reunion, which will be hosted by former Challenge contestant and current pro wrestler Mike "The Miz" Mizanin. This sure-to-be explosive walk down memory lane begins Tuesday, May 16 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.

The Challenge champions competing in Champs Vs. Pros are said to be announced following the season finale of Invasion Of The Champions Tuesday night, according to MTV News. However, the below preview of the new series gives a sneak peek of some of The Challenge favorites we can expect to compete, including Johnny Bananas, CT, and Camila.

Everything about this season is bigger and better than ever. Not only is the largest cash prize ever (a whopping one million dollars!) being given to the winner, but MTV has brought back some of the most celebrated faces in the history of The Challenge for this special season set in South America.

Ahead of the premiere, MTV will kick things off with The Challenge: Double Agents Declassified, a sneak peek event in which fans will learn more about the cast. The special airs Monday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. ET. And if that's not enough to get you excited, MTV's Official Challenge Podcast premieres on Thursday, Dec. 10. Hosted by veterans Tori Deal and Aneesa Ferreira (a season 36 contestant), it'll basically recap and dive into each episode and all of its drama.

In July, The Challenge: Total Madness came to a close when Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio and Jenny West emerged as the male and female victors of season 35. With that, Bananas took home his seventh Challenge win, which is just insane.

Six years later, the Las Vegas native said the two reunited when the executive pitched him the hosting gig. After meeting with the production company Bunim and Murray, Lavin walked away with the job but said he called late BMX legend Diva Mirra, who hosted two seasons of the show, for his approval beforehand.

The Challenge (originally known as Road Rules: All Stars, followed by Real World/Road Rules Challenge) is a reality game show on MTV that is spun off from the network's two reality shows, The Real World and the now cancelled Road Rules. It features alumni from these two shows, in addition to first-time cast members called 'Fresh Meat' and alumni from Are You the One?, competing against one another for a cash prize. The Challenge is currently hosted by T. J. Lavin. The series premiered on June 1, 1998. The title of the show was originally Road Rules: All Stars before it was renamed Real World/Road Rules Challenge by the show's 2nd season, then later abridged to simply The Challenge by the show's 19th season. The series initially used no hosts but instead a former cast member who had been kicked off his or her season, providing assignments as "Mr." or "Ms. Big" (David "Puck" Rainey, David Edwards, and Gladys Sanabria served this role). Later on, however, the series began using hosts: Eric Nies and Mark Long co-hosted a season, and Jonny Moseley and Dave Mirra hosted various seasons before T. J. Lavin became the show's regular host by the 11th season. (source: en.wikipedia.org)

The sixth contestant to win back-to-back flagship seasons of the reality show, following Darrell Taylor, Veronica Portillo, Landon Lueck, Evan Starkman, Tyler Duckworth, and Chris "CT" Tamburello, Devenanzio holds the record for most number of seasons participated.

He was also in news for dating Big Brother: Over the Top winner Morgan Willett. The couple started dating after completing filming for season 33 of The Challenge, however spliting in September 2021 after Willett claimed that the MTV star was unfaithful.

This is the fifth time since the inception of the award that a male athlete from LSU has been named National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season. Laird joins two-time honoree Mondo Duplantis (2019), Nethaneel Mitchell Blake (2016) and Vernon Norwood (2015).

This is the first time since 2016 that a female athlete from Texas has been named National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season. That turned out pretty well, as that honoree was none other than 2016 The Bowerman winner Courtney Okolo.

On her first attempt of the competition, Judith Essemiah launched the hammer 63.22m (207-5) to become the No. 8 performer on the NCAA DII all-time top-10 list.
