Police Simulator takes place in a fictional city as a member of the Brighton Police Department. We begin our careers on foot patrol within a certain area of the city. As we progress, additional areas are unlocked along with car patrols and various types of police calls for service. This is not simply a pull someone over, give them a ticket and let them go type of game. Police Simulator and its developers were clearly vested in making a true to life and accurate representation of the police career. The shifts are 8 hours in length, and can range in the amount of real-life time it takes to complete lasting for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35,45, 60 or 90 minutes.


In Police Simulator: Patrol Officers, players slip into the role of one of 8 playable characters and start their first shift as a rookie patrol officer in the fictional US East Coast city of Brighton. As they learn the ropes of their law enforcement occupation, they will graduate from enforcing simple traffic rules or preventing littering, to handling minor and major accidents. Police officers will also search and arrest wanted suspects in cases of theft, bodily harm, property damage or even drug dealing. With growing experience, they will not only unlock three different police cars and more complex tasks, but also three lively city districts consisting of fifteen diverse neighborhoods. A two-player coop multiplayer mode gives virtual officers the opportunity to serve the public as a team together with a friend, while an open patrol mode offers them unrestricted access to the whole city.


As part of the Brighton Police department, the newly minted officers are not only responsible for upholding the law when it comes to the behavior of the general public. It is also important that they follow the rules themselves and set an example for others. This means that they should carefully consider their actions when it comes to stopping, questioning, searching or even arresting citizens. Unlawful police behavior will result in the loss of conduct points, which can in turn lead to the sudden end of their shift or even their termination from Brighton PD.

That is one of several examples of systematic bias that emerged from a five-year study that analyzed 95 million traffic stop records, filed by officers with 21 state patrol agencies and 35 municipal police forces from 2011 to 2018.


The Stanford-led study also found that when drivers were pulled over, officers searched the cars of blacks and Hispanics more often than whites. The researchers also examined a subset of data from Washington and Colorado, two states that legalized marijuana, and found that while this change resulted in fewer searches overall, and thus fewer searches of blacks and Hispanics, minorities were still more likely than whites to have their cars searched after a pull-over.

Police patrols play an important role in public safety. The patrol district design is an important factor affecting the patrol performances, such as average response time and workload variation. The redistricting or redrawing police command boundaries can be described as partitioning a police jurisdiction into command districts with the constraints such as contiguity and compactness. The size of the possible sample space is large and the corresponding graph-partitioning problem is NP-complete. In our approach, the patrol districting plans generated by a parameterized redistricting procedure are evaluated using an agent-based simulation model we implemented in Java Repast in a geographic information system (GIS) environment. The relationship between districting parameters and response variables is studied and better districting plans can be generated. After in-depth evaluations of these plans, we perform a Pareto analysis of the outputs from the simulation to find the non-dominated set of plans on each of the objectives. This paper also includes a case study for the police department of Charlottesville, VA, USA.
